چکیده
We present in this paper the design of DeepTutor, the first dialoguebased intelligent tutoring system based on Learning Progressions, and its implications for developing the Generalized Framework for Intelligent Tutoring. We also present the design of SEMILAR, a semantic similarity toolkit, that helps researchers investigate and author semantic similarity models for evaluating natural language student inputs in conversatioanl ITSs. DeepTutor has been developed as a web service while SEMILAR is a Java library. Based on our experience with developing DeepTutor and SEMILAR, we contrast three different models for developing a standardized architecture for intelligent tutoring systems: (1) a single-entry web service coupled with XML protocols for queries and data, (2) a bundle of web services, and (3) library-API. Based on the analysis of the three models, recommendations are

Personalization needs to identify the learners’ preferences and their characteristics as an important part in any e-learning environment which without identify learners’ mental characteristics and their learning approaches, personalization cannot be possible. Whatever this identifying process has been done more completely and more accurately, the learner model that based on it will be more reli...
متن کاملBeyond the Short Answer Question with Research Methods Tutor
Research Methods Tutor is a new intelligent tutoring system created by porting the existing implementation of the AutoTutor system to a new domain, Research Methods in Behavioural Sciences, which allows more interactive dialogues. The procedure of porting allowed for an evaluation of the domain independence of the AutoTutor framework and for the identification of domain related requirements. Sp...
متن کاملToward "Hyper-Personalized" Cognitive Tutors: Non-Cognitive Personalization in the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring
We are starting to integrate Carnegie Learning’s Cognitive Tutor (CT) into the Army Research Laboratory’s Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT), with the aim of extending the tutoring systems to understand the impact of integrating non-cognitive factors into our tutoring. As part of this integration, we focus on ways in which non-cognitive factors can be assessed, measured, and/...
متن کاملAuthoring a Thermodynamics Cycle Tutor Using GIFT
The main idea of generalized intelligent tutoring system (ITS) development tools like Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT) is to provide authors with high-level standards and a readily reusable structure within different domains. Hence, adapting such a tool could be the best way to boost an underdeveloped tutor. In this paper we propose the design for a new GIFTbased tutor for ...
متن کاملThe MATHESIS meta-knowledge engineering framework: Ontology-driven development of intelligent tutoring systems
The effect of the knowledge acquisition bottleneck is still limiting the widespread use of knowledge-based systems (KBS), especially in the area of model-tracing tutors, as they demand the development of deep domain expertise, tutoring and student models. The MATHESIS meta-knowledge engineering framework for model-tracing tutors, presented in this article, aims at maximizing knowledge reuse. Th...
